Hee-ya! The monitor lizard is
a disgustingly ugly creature. This one was snapped at Lumpini Park.
Do NOT say the name of this animal loudly as the name of the beast
also happens to be a major insult in Thai! |
The restaurant atop State Tower overlooking
the city at night. Exposed to the elements and over 200 metres up,
I found it a little perturbing to be honest! |
Time to take a nap....the most popular
way for passengers to deal with the city's awful traffic jams. Most folks who manage to
get a seat on a Bangkok bus do their best to have a snooze. |
A common site, looking out of one of
a Bangkok taxis. This shot was taken from Soi Asoke, right outside
Soi Cowboy, looking towards Sukhumvit Road. |
A temple just south-west of Bangkok is
lit up for a festival celebrating a young guy becoming a monk. |
The view from a friend's apartment, looking
downtown as the sun goes down. |
At the bottom of the stairs of the Chongnonsee
BTS station, a vendor sells apples and barks out to passers by, trying
to entice them to buy her product. |
Patpong Road by day. And yes, service can
be found at that time. |
Durian, the king of fruits - and quite
possibly the world's least healthy fruit. Something of a
cholesterol bomb, I believe. |
"Oh my lovely white skin is going
to go black!" White skin is prized as a sign of beauty in
Thailand and Thai women do all they can to protect their skin from
exposure to the skin. |
The job of labourer is not the exclusive
domain of men in Thailand. |
Now that's a sight for sore eyes!
And if you think I just took one photo o this lot, you'd be hopelessly
wrong! |
One
of the many delightful sights of Pattaya. Perhaps one of the
most noticeable differences between Bangkok and Pattaya is that the locals' attire is much more suited
to a beach environment than a city in the seaside city of sin. |
A
warning of what can happen if you lose the plot in Pattaya. This farang
is frequently seen on Beach Road in Pattaya, and often in a right
state! Still, having a nap is harmless enough, is it not?! |
Riding a songtaew (or baht
bus) in Pattaya. 5 baht for Thais, 10 baht for foreigners! |
Asking
for directions, or possibly asking about something else? |
It's
not an easy life for so many Thais. These two are selling lottery
tickets just outside the Erawan shrine. |
Pattaya
Bay during the day, when all of the girls are sleeping! |
Probably one of the most photographed
spots in Pattaya, the beginning of Walking Street. On this inauspicious
occasion, the neon wasn't operating quite as it should have been. |
Boats
on the Chao Praya River in Bangkok, one of my favourites spots and
a great place to just get away from it all. |
One
of the many excellent seafood restaurants in Hua Hin. My preferred
venue is "Chao La". |
Parts
of rural Thailand can be so calm and relaxing, this being rural
Chaiyapum. |
Once known as "Millionaires' Row",
the prices on Sukhumvit Soi 33 haven't moved in years. And as
the drinks prices at other bar area have soared, this soi is now not
nearly as expensive as it once seemed. |
Two lovely
Thai flowers, near that huge dam in Saraburi. |
Don't ask me what that is she is selling!
After 7+ years in country, the goodies that some vendors peddle still puzzle me. Mystery
fruit and mystery vegetables!! The only identifiable thing is mango. |
The family transport.
I think the most I've ever seen on one bike is six. |
An
odd hairstyle this one...a recent trend has seen
Thai women have all manner of weird and wonderful hairstyles. No longer is it only
short, medium-length or long for Thai women. Anything goes in
the 21st century. |
No matter how often you see this sight, it pulls on your heart
strings. A mother cradles her child in the park in the centre of
Korat. |
And in another part of the very same park, a bunch of Thai men sit
around, chat and enjoy the fresh air. |
I'm not sure if this was a school group, a sports group, or what, but
they really did need a bigger bus! |
The Chinese temple on Chopsticks Mountain in Hua Hin, or Khao
Da-giep as it is known in Thai.. |
Immediately after a downfall, the ta-graw players are back on
the pitch to
battle it out in the last minutes of light before the sun went down. |
Two gentlemen share war stories in Korat. |
Is this Bangkok's most known strip? Patpong by day. |
Pattaya
just before it really started pissing down. The rain hit, and
hit hard, less than five minutes after this shot was taken. |
What would
a Stickman photo gallery that represents my life in Thailand be
without a shot of one of the naughty bar areas? Here's Soi
Cowboy. |
This is one
part of a huge temple complex located on the main highway, 40km south of Korat. This
one is going to be impressive when it is finished, and no doubt will
become very well known. |
The lad in
the blue T-shirt was knocked over while crossing the road by the
motorcycle taxi rider, the guy in the orange vest. With cops
quickly to the scene, it looked like it was not going to be cheap for
him... |
Would you believe it if I
told you that this guy was the security guard for the old Asoke Plaza
area on the corner of Asoke and Sukhumvit? Really, he was! |
Near the Patumwan
intersection in central Bangkok, an ice-cream vendor is watched by his
fellow countrymen. |
A mango vendor sells some
motley looking produce on South Pattaya Road. |
Be careful without your
helmet, the police love to fine you! |
You're nicked! No
backhanders here! This Pattaya songtaew driver is issued with a
ticket. No 100 baht notes changing hands here! |
I'm not sure about the Speedo
style. You really do see all sorts on the beach at Pattaya. |
It was the hairdo that dirty
caught my eyes, and then the legs. I whipped it out and fired.
My camera, I mean! |
The sign behind them says
"Urgently Required: Many Beautiful Young Women - High Salary Paid".
Vendors peddle seafood on
Pattaya beach. While they have a living to make, their constant
approaches make Pattaya Beach perhaps the least relaxing beach for
sunbathing I've ever been to. |
Just after the rain had
stopped on the Second Road, Pattaya. |
From the new wharf, looking
across Pattaya Bay. |
